World Alzheimer's Day

World Alzheimer's Day 2022: Observed on 21st September every year, World Alzheimer's Day aims at raising awareness around the warning signs of dementia.

This year’s theme is “Know dementia, know Alzheimer's.” It aims to highlight the importance of support for people living with dementia and families following a diagnosis.

Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia and constitutes 60-70% of cases. According to the World Health Organisation, there are currently 55 million people living with dementia worldwide.

Known to be a progressive condition, the symptoms develop slowly over the years only to get severe. As per NHS, UK, the first sign is usually minor memory problems, ranging from forgetting about recent conversations and names of people. Over a period of time, further symptoms can develop, such as confusion, disorientation, getting lost in familiar places, problems with speech and language, personality changes, hallucinations and delusions.
